A quick way to check no-start cars for ignition problems Check a no-start car quickly and simply. Just unplug the plug wire and connect it to the tester, clamp the tester to a solid ground, crank the engine and watch for spark. A properly working ignition will be able to jump a spark across the tester's gap. Two testers are recommended for checking spark on DIS or EDIS applications.
